Five Ton Air Conditioning Unit Uses 80% Less Energy

The devner based companies, Coolerado Corp, has won this years UC Davis Western Cooling Challenge. The UC Davis challenge was originally designed to aid manufacturers in making better, more energy efficient air conditioners and for customers to get the latest information about them.

The H-80 5 ton commercial air conditioning unit was entered by Coolerado and was announced the winner after the results of federal tests came back. The tests discovered that the 5 ton rooftop cooling unit actually uses less than half the standard amount of energy needed by a conventional unit.

The results of these tests came as a big surprise for some after they were released from the US Government’s National Renewable Energy Labratory. The director of the UC Davis challenge, Mark Modera, originally believed that the H-80 unit would only save 40% energy compared to standard units. However, after the results of the tests were concluded, it was found that the unit actually uses 80% less power compared to a standard commercial cooling unit.

The winning unit, the Coolerado H-80 rooftop unit, has been designed for small commercial shops and offices. Just one of the H-80 units can cool around 3000 square feet of floor space, definately alot more than a standard cieling fan.

No doubt many companies will look to improve their green image by buying a more energy saving air conditioning system. Air con and air filter units is one of the biggest items that environmentalists have problems with because they are generally seen as a luxury. Now that it’s been announced that the H-80 uses 80% less energy, it will become very popular with both companies and customers. Although I suspect many customers don’t really consider what’s keeping the store cool and refreshing.

Although these tests have proven to be good news for the industry, we could soon see more good news as a result of these tests. Many other companies have also submitted their cooling units, not just Coolerado, however, the results of these tests have not yet been released. We’ll have to wait to see if any of them beat the H-80.
